THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's tennis team returned home to take on Division II Concordia-Irvine on Saturday afternoon at the Poulson Tennis Center. The Eagles took the dual and defeated the Kingsmen 7-2.

In five duals this year, it is the third D-II opponent the Purple and Gold have faced. Scoring the points for CLU was doubles partners Darvel Lossangoye and Ryan Murphy at the No. 2 (8-5) and Charlie Spina and Sean Yaghoubi at the No 3 (8-2).

"We've started focusing a lot more on doubles lately which came through for us with a 2-1 lead from doubles," said tennis head coach Mike Gennette. "The team is super committed and is training hard. This season of playing up against Division I, II and NAIA all year is going to pay off in the long run. The experience is great for our young and talented team!"

The Eagles took the early lead in the dual as they won all six singles matches. Competing for the Kingsmen was Spina at the No. 1 (6-4, 6-1), Corey Karen at the No. 2 (6-4, 6-2), Lossangoye at the No. 3 (7-6 (3), 6-4), Shawn Rothermel at the No. 4 (3-6, 6-2, 6-2), Jacob Bear at the No. 5 (7-5, 6-4) and Murphy at the No. 6 ( 7-6 (6), 6-2).

In doubles play, the Kingsmen fought back and won two points, but the Eagles scored the other point and took the dual.

The Kingsmen are back on the road for one more non-conference dual, Wednesday at Azusa Pacific, before starting. Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play.
