Spina Earns SCIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran sophomore Charlie Spina of men's tennis was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Spina (Valencia, Calif.) was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career. Despite the Kingsmen falling to NAIA foe Westmont, 7-2, Spina shined at the No. 1 singles position. When being behind 2-1 after doubles, Spina tied the contest at 2-2 as he picked up his first win of the season, 6-0, 6-4.

From there, the Warriors claimed the next five points to seal the win. Spina was also stellar in doubles play as he and teammate Ryan Murphy came up just shy, 8-7 (6) at the No. 1 doubles spot.
