ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Adam Cartozian of Cal Lutheran men's golf was named First Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and JP Guimaraes Jr. garnered the Jesse Clark Sportsmanship Award, the conference announced Thursday morning.
All-SCIAC – Conference Release
Cartozian (Modesto, Calif.) earned his first All-SCIAC honor and landed on the First Team. He competed at two if the SCIAC events and had a stroke average of 71. He placed top-10 in both the SCIAC #2 and the SCIAC Championships. He tied for fifth at SCIAC #2 with 1-over-par (68-73-141). At the SCIAC Championships, he placed ninth at 2-under-par (78-69-67-214).
Guimaraes Jr. (San Ramon, Calif.) was voted on by his peers to earn the Jesse Clark Sportmanship Award. He competed at all three SCIAC events. He led the Kingsmen at the SCIAC Championships and placed sixth at 4-under-par. He shot under-par every round and carded 212 strokes (70-71-71). He tied for 31st at SCIAC #2 at 14-over-par (74-80-154)and tied for 34th at the SCIAC Championships with 20-over-par (79-85-164) for a stroke average of 75.71.
The sportsmanship award recognizes students who, while competing on their teams, have been recognized by coaches, officials, institutional administrators or others as making significant contributions representing their school and serving their communities based on the following criteria: advancing sportsmanship, balancing sports and major personal academic achievements, demonstrating behavior that models efforts of inclusion within their teams and those of their opponents, contributes to a sense of civility in society, or otherwise innovatively elevates the profile of what participation in the SCIAC and as a Division III student-athlete can offer to the betterment of community.
