Fusari, Snodgrass, Volk Garner SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Cal Lutheran student-athletes Nick Fusari, Mason Snodgrass and Isaiah Volk earned Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announce Monday morning. 

Fusari and Snodgrass swept the weekly awards for Baseball, while Volk garnered the honor for Men's Tennis. It was the first Athlete of the Week honor for all three. 

Fusari (Alamo, Calif.) connected on a walk-off in game two, to clinch the series against Redlands, as Kingsmen Baseball won 3-2 in 11 innings. In the three-game series with the Bulldogs, the junior had an average of .600, with a .800-percent slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. In 10 at-bats, Fusari tallied six hits, three RBI, one run, and eight total bases. He recorded a triple, two walks and two stolen bases. The Kingsmen won two of the three games and took the first series of the season.

Snodgrass (Santa Rosa, Calif.) was the starting pitcher for game two, that clinched the series. Even though he did not get the win, he set the Kingsmen up for success. The senior pitched 7.0 strong innings. He struck out four batters, only giving up two hits, and had zero earned runs. Snodgrass threw 95 pitches in his masterful performance. 

Volk (Oak Park, Calif.) clinched the dual for the Kingsmen as CLU defeated Chapman 5-4. With the Kingsmen down 4-3, it was up to Corey Karen at the No. 2 and Volk at the 4. Both matches went to a third set as Karen tied the game with a score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. The clinch came at the No. 4 as Volk won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. It was hist first match in 14 months. With the win, the Kingsmen hold a 2-0 lead, in a best-of-five series, with the Panthers.
