Five Cal Lutheran Student-Athletes Garner SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Cal Lutheran student-athletes Brennan ForemanJake MacKinnonZaria OparaKyle Reuser and Mason Snodgrass earned Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announce Monday morning. 

Foreman garnered the award for women's tennis, MacKinnon and Opara did so for track and field and Reuser and Snodgrass swept the baseball awards. 

Foreman (Austin, Texas)was selected for her first SCIAC Athlete of the Week award. The junior helped pace the Regals to their first victory over the season - an 8-1 win over Ventura Community College. Foreman won her No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8, while she and teammate Carolina Groff Hinojosa came up just short (8-7 (9)) in No. 1 doubles. 

MacKinnon (Orcutt, Calif.) garnered hist first SCIAC Athlete of the Week award after his first collegiate meet. The freshman won the discus with a toss of 37.04 meters, and then won the hammer throw with a heave of 38.91 meters. He also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 10.90 meters. 

Opara (Carnation, Wash.) earned her first SCIAC Athlete of the Week award. The sophomore was excellent in the field events winning the shot put with a toss of 10.41 meters. She was also second in the hammer throw with a mark of 36.80 meters, and was third in the discus with a heave of 33.54 meters. 

Reuser (Chatsworth, Calif.) was named SCIAC Hitter of the Week for the first time. The sophomore hit .429 during CLU's two-game non-league contests with Antelope Valley. In game one, a 9-4 loss, Reuser was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base, and then in a 2-1 loss, scored a run and drew two walks. He finished the week with a .556 on-base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage. 

Snodgrass (Santa Rosa, Calif.) garnered his second SCIAC Pitcher of the Week award, in as many games. In game two of a pair of non-conference games against Antelope Valley, the senior was stellar on the hill allowing one unearned run on three hits in 5.1 innings of a no-decision. He walked just two batters and struck out five in the game.
