Wellesly Blue Shut Down Regals

THOUSAND OAK, Calif. — California Lutheran's Sarah Seeman won a singles match, but the Wellesley Blue took down the Regals 8-1 Friday afternoon at the Poulson Tennis Center.

Seeman won her fifth singles match of the season, all at the No. 2 spot. She won in straight sets as she claimed the only point for the Regals. She took the first game 7-5 and the second game 6-3.

The Blue started out with a 3-0 lead as they won all the doubles matches. Annette Sousa and Nicole Neumann were close at the No. 2 spot, but fell 8-6. Christie Kurdys and Gianna Cupo competed at the No. 1 spot while Seeman and Jade Moore were at the No. 3 spot. Both duos lost 8-2.

Except for Seeman's win, the Regals lost in straight sets in every singles match. Kurdys lost at the No. 1 spot (6-2, 6-4), Sousa fell short at the No. 3 (6-2, 6-3), Neumann was defeated at the No. 4 (6-1, 6-0), Moore was knocked off at the No. 5 (6-2, 6-3) and Merissa Souza lost at the No. 6 (6-1, 6-1).

The Regals look to bounce back Saturday. Cal Lutheran begins SCIAC play and hosts Pomona-Pitzer at 10 a.m. The Regals then take on Willamette (Ore.) at 2:30 p.m.
