Regals Fall to Blues

THOUSAND OAK, Calif. — California Lutheran's Jade Moore and Merissa Souza won their first doubles match of the year, but Whitman College was too much for the Regals as the Blues won 8-1 Friday afternoon at the Poulson Tennis Center.

With the loss, CLU dropped to 2-5. Whitman moved to .500 after the win and is now 6-6.

Moore and Souza were victorious at the No. 3 doubles spot with a score of 8-6. The Blues had the 2-1 lead after the Regals were defeated 8-4 at the No. 2 spot and 8-1 at No. 1.

In singles play, the Regals put up a tough fight, but were overcome by the Blues. Christie Kurdys dropped her match at the No. 1 spot (7-6, 6-4), Sarah Seeman lost at the No. 2 spot (6-1, 6-3), Annette Sousa came up short at the No. 3 (6-2, 6-3), Nicole Neumann was defeated at the No. 4 (6-2, 6-1), Moore was knocked off at the No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) and Nicole Klaparda fell at the No. 6 (6-0, 6-0).

Next up for the women's tennis team is Sewanee. The match is set for Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Poulson Tennis Center.
