NORMAN, Okla. — Cal Lutheran's Stefan Nelson and Jake Rosen have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
They are the 16th and 17th Kingsmen golfers to earn All-America Scholar in program history and are the first set of teammates since 2007. The duo are two of only four CLU golfers to earn the award since 2007.
Nelson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) competed in nine tournaments and 21 rounds of golf as a junior. After recording a stroke average of 79 as a freshman, he improved that to 77.14 as a junior. He placed in the top-20 of two tournaments, tying for 13th at the CA State Intercollegiate and tied for 16th at the SCIAC Championship. In the classroom, he has a 3.80 cumulative grade point average (GPA), is an exercise science major and a has been inducted into the CLU Scholar-Athlete Society twice.
Competing in 10 rounds of golf and 22 rounds, Rosen (Northridge, Calif.) compiled a stroke average of 76.18 as a senior. He has lowered his stroke average every year and took on a leadership role this season and was the captain. He had an impressive outing at the SCIAC No. 2 as he placed second with a two-round score of 4-over-par (72-74-146). He is a three-time CLU Scholar Athlete with a 3.44 GPA while majoring in financial planning.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
