Kingsmen Salvage Series, Take Game Three From Leopards; Watson Gets Win in 4.1 Innings of Relief

LA VERNE, Calif. — In one of the best baseball conference in the nation, California Lutheran University took on another tough task and faced La Verne in a doubleheader on Saturday.

After losing game two 8-0, and dropping the series to the Leopards, the Kingsmen salvaged the day by taking game three 7-3. The Purple and Gold are now 18-10 and 7-5 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play. 

In game three, Alexander Rivas took to the mound. He went 4.2 innings and struck out three with six hits and two earned runs. Will Watson came in on relief and dominated the Leopards' bats. He went 4.1 innings and struck out four and allowed just one hit. He pitched nearly perfect over the final three innings getting nine of the 10 batters out. 

The Leopards struck first with a run in the first and third inning. The Kingsmen turned up their bats in the fifth and Max Heverly got Cal Lutheran started with a RBI single.

The Kingsmen added two more runs in the sixth as Brendan Durfee homered to right center. Heverly then added his second RBI with a single through the right side. 

Cal Lutheran continued scoring with one run in the seventh and two in the ninth. Kyle Reuser, Joseph Scalzo and Durfee added to the point total with crucial hits. 

The Kigsmen will look to carry the momentum from game three into next week. Cal Lutheran takes on Chapman for its next series which starts on Friday at Chapman with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
