Kingsmen Drop Series To Sagehens

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – After dropping game one of the series against the Sagehens on Friday, the Purple and Gold started off their double header with a 15-2 win in seven innings followed by a 3-1 loss in the afternoon.

The scoring started early on for the Kingsmen as they were up 6-0 by the end of the first inning. Zach Bullard recorded his first RBI of the game in the bottom of the first when he sent Kyle Reuser home.

Gordon Richardson sent one down the left field line for a double and two RBIs. Jalen Parks, the Kingsmen's designated hitter who has been on fire in the batter's box, stepped right up and recorded a two RBI double himself.

To finish off the scoring in the bottom of the first was Ryan Farr with a single, sending Parks home and securing the 6-0 lead.

Bullard got the seventh run for the Kingsmen with a single to right field that allowed Max Heverly to cross home. The scoring picked back up in the bottom of the fourth with a SAC fly from Bullard that sent Reuser home once again.

Will Watson hit a line drive into the gap in left center and got all the way to third, tabbing two RBIs. Following Watson was Brendan Durfee with a double down the right field line. Parks came back up to the plate and continued to produce for the Kingsmen with a single through the left side, sending Durfee home.

Heverly picked it back up again in the bottom of the fifth with a triple to right field, allowing Austin Carrillo to score for the Kingsmen. The Purple and Gold were up 14-1 after the bottom of the fifth.

To finish the scoring and the game for the Kingsmen was Farr. Farr lined out to left field but sent Richardson home one last time in game one.

Zach Creighton started on the mound of the Kingsmen and pitched no-hitter into the fifth for the Purple and Gold. Creighton pitched for 5.1 innings and tabbed six strike outs. Bryan Tierney faced two batters during his time on the mound and had one strike out. To finish off the game for one inning on the mound was Clay Rickerman. Rickerman faced four batters and had two strike outs.

Game two was a battle in the batter's box for the Kingsmen. The Purple and Gold held the Sagehens well defensively but didn't score their first run until the bottom of the eighth. Carrillo forced an error on the Sagehen short stop to score Sean Blandino.

The Kingsmen were fighting back in the bottom of the ninth and had runners on first and third but they weren't able to convert. This gave the Sagehens the series.

Chris Torres was on the mound for six innings in game two facing 27 batters. Watson relieved Torres for the last three innings and had two strike outs in the 11 batters he faced.

The Kingsmen are back in the diamond at home on Friday to take on La Verne. First pitch is at 3 pm.
