THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University baseball dropped its series opener for the second straight weekend as the Kingsmen fell to the La Verne Leopards 11-2 on Friday afternoon.

The loss drops the Kingsmen to 17-9 overall and 6-4 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play.

Chris Torres was on the mound for the Kingsmen and went 5.2 innings with two strikeouts. He allowed eight hits and four runs, three of which were earned. He kept the Kingsmen in the game, but it was an off day for the Purple and Gold bats.

The Leopards recorded 18 hits to the Kingsmen's nine . La Verne scored at least two runs, four different times. They scored two in the second, sixth and seventh and four in the eighth to cap off the win.

The rally started in the bottom of the eighth for the Kingsmen. With Nolan Brooks on first, Ryan Farr doubled to move him over. Matthys Schouten came on to pinch-hit and made the opportunity count. He hit a 2-RBI double to left center to get Cal Lutheran on the board. That was all the Kingsmen could push across the plate as they stranded the bases loaded.

The Kingsmen and Leopards continue their series Saturday morning in La Verne, Calif., with first pitch of the first game starting at 11 a.m.
