Kingsmen Pull Away Late, Defeat CMS 10-1

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Kingsmen gave up just 1 run and put an exclamation point on the game with 7 late runs in a 10-1 win over Claremond-Mudd-Scripps on Friday afternoon.

Cal Lutheran's starting pitcher Chris Torres struck out 3 in 5.1 innings allowing just 1 run as to put the Kingsmen in position to win.

The Kingsmen offense gave Torres all the runs he would need when Sean Blandino hit a two run home run to score himself and Brendan Durfee in the bottom of the second.

Zach Lafata doubled down the right field line to drive in Joseph Scalzo and put the Kingsmen up 3-0 in the fourth inning.

CMS scored their only run of the game in the top of the sixth. Cal Lutheran brought in Clay Rickerman who was able to end the threat.

The seventh inning was when the Kingsmen broke the game wide open. Austin Carillo scored on a Zach Bullard double. A Joseph Scalzo double plated Bullard and Brendan Durfee before a Scalzo was driven in by a Sean Blandino single.

Up 7-1, the Cal Lutheran continued to pull away in the eighth when Kyle Reuser doubled to left driving in Max Heverly. Joseph Scalzo finished the scoring by driving in his third and fourth RBIs of the game, (Reuser and Durfee).

Scoreless innings pitched by Will Watson and John Frazier helped the Kingsmen on route to the 10-1 victory.

Cal Lutheran will continue the weekend series on the road in Claremont with a Saturday double header at 11am and 2pm.
