THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. Austin Carrillo hit a grand slam and Kyle Reuser added a solo shot, but it wasn't enough as California Lutheran University baseball suffered a late comeback by the MIT Engineers and fell 13-11 on Thursday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Kingsmen to 14-5 and have lost four of their past six games.

Reuser jumpstarted the offense with his solo shot as he crushed the first pitch that he saw. Cal Lutheran got the runs early and often and were out to a huge lead. The Kingsmen scored two runs in both the first and second innings. They added five runs in the third as Carrillo connected on his grand slam.

Cal Lutheran scored two more runs in the fifth and took an 11-1 run into the sixth inning.

Chris Torres was on the mound and cruising through five innings. The Engineers got to him and outsted him in the sixth. He made it 5.1 innings with three earned runs to four strikeouts. His was in line for the win when he left.

MIT got a bulk of the runs back and totaled five in the inning. The Kingsmen relief pitchers could not quiet the MIT bats. The Engineers made the comeback and took the lead in the top of the eighth as they added six runs.

Cal Lutheran could not manufacture anymore runs and were shutout over the final four innings. The defense kept the Kingsmen in it at the end as Ben Wangrin and Sean Blandino made stellar plays in the outfield to save runs.

The defense at the end wasn't enough as the offense could not pick back up where they left off and Cal Lutheran fell to MIT.

The Kingsmen look to get back to their winning ways on Friday as they get back into SCIAC play and host Whittier at 3 p.m.
