Regals Host Poets in SCIAC Tournament Semis

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — For the second straight year, the Cal Lutheran women's water polo team is hosting a semifinal game in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament as the No. 2 Regals welcome the No. 3 Whittier Poets to the Samuelson Aquatics Center on Friday at 4 p.m.

The winner of CLU/WC will take on either the top seed, Pomona-Pitzer, or the No. 4 seed, La Verne. The championship will be held on Sunday at the campus with the highest remaining seed. During the regular season, the Regals defeated the Poets in their lone contest, 11-7. 

Admission is free for students with a SCIAC school ID while general admission is $10. Tickets for seniors (55 and older), military and veterans are $5. Children under 12 years of age are free. 

Lexi Rond leads the offense with 54 goals and has recorded a program-record 99 drawn ejections. Eight more Regals have scored 20-plus points as Nikki Roed (38), Jessica Diaz (28), Mardell Ramirez (27), Victoria Rose Meek (26), Christin Hirn (24), Megan Seeman (24), Mackenzie Thomas (24) and Kaitlin Gardhouse (22) help keep the offense going.

The Regals share the ball on the offensive end as Ramirez has 31 assists, Gardhouse tallied 16 and Hirn and Seeman have added 11 each. 

Defensively, Bailey Meyer has 289 saves and 32 steals. She is only six saves shy of setting the all-time program record for a career. Four Regals have tallied 30-plus steals as Roed (38), Thomas (38), Gardhouse (37) and Ramirez (33) as well as many others have helped shut down opposing offenses. Meyer and the defense have combined to hold opponents under five points in 13 games.
