THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Regals water polo scored four goals in the fourth quarter as Cal Lutheran finished off the Macalester Scots 9-2 on Thursday night.

The Regals defeated their non-conference opponent and pushed their win streak to three as they improved to 13-7. It is the second time this season that CLU has only allowed two goals.

Bailey Meyer became just the second Cal Lutheran goalkeeper with over 800 saves. She currently is second all-time with 812. Meyer tallied 13 during the game as she combined with the defense to shut down the Scots. She also dished out a team-high three assists and tallied one steal.

The offense and defense were balanced all the way around as eight different Regals recorded a goal while eight also tallied a steal. CLU was 4-of-10 on power play opportunities and held Macalester to 0-of-5. Victoria Rose Meek and Lexi Rond both led the team with three drawn ejections. Rond has 77 drawn ejections on the season, which are the third-most in program history.

The low-scoring affair showed early and often. Cal Lutheran held Macalester scoreless in the first and fourth quarters and the Scots held the Regals scoreless in the third. The Regals' defense held Macalester to a shooting percentage of .100.

The defensive game started early as only one goal was scored in the first quarter. After a penalty shot was called, Rond converted giving CLU the lead. Macalester tied it up on its first possession of the second quarter, but the Regals countered with four unanswered goals as they took the lead at the half. Jessica Diaz, Kaitlin Gardhouse and Meek scored back-to-back-to-back goals as CLU had a 4-1 lead. Rond added her second goal a few minutes later and CLU was up 5-1 at the break.

Macalester picked up its defense in the third quarter and held the Regals scoreless. The Scots put up one goal as they tried to make a comeback with one quarter to play. Christin Hirn got that goal back quickly in the fourth as she put CLU up 6-2 with 7:08 to play. The Regals' defense wouldn't allow any more goals the rest of the way, but the offense wasn't satisfied. Mardell Ramirez, Mackenzie Thomas and Jay Clerou each added a goal as the Regals defeated the Scots 9-2.

The game with Macalester was the last non-conference game of the season for Cal Lutheran. CLU has seven conference games left and Whittier is next on the schedule. The Regals are at the Poets on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
