LA VERNE, Calif.– The California Lutheran University women's soccer team extended their winning streak to five games after a dynamic offensive display led the Regals to a comfortable 4-1 victory over La Verne, Saturday morning at Ortmayer Stadium.

CLU were the dominant team despite traveling for the early morning contest, coming out lively on the attack to grab two first half goals. The Leopards would eventually get a goal back early in the second half, but the Regals did well to respond to their defensive mishap, netting two more goals in the second 45 minutes to put the game away and take all three points.

It was truly one-sided from start to finish as Cal Lutheran totaled 21 shots with 11 on target while holding their opposition to just three shots on the day, one of those coming from the penalty spot. CLU also notched nine corners kicks in the match without conceding a corner on the defensive end.

Alexandra Fageberg scored the opening goal for the second straight contest, breaking through in the 21st minute. Sonia Chan did very well to win possession in the middle of the pitch and took a few touches before hitting a fantastic ball to Fagerberg making a diagonal run in behind the backline. The forward brought the ball down with a brilliant touch, maneuvered around the goalkeeper and passed the ball into the back of the net to put her team out in front.

That goal makes it four in the last five games for the junior as she continues her excellent goal-scoring form. With six goals on the season, the Austin, Texas native now leads the team.

Freshman Kylie Garcia found space to bury her first collegiate goal in the 40th minute. CLU won a corner and Remi Miller was chosen to whip it into the box. It was a great driven ball that found the midfielder's foot six yards from the goal and she confidently volleyed her chance to double the lead.

The hosts managed to pull a goal back in the 56th minute when they were awarded a penalty and converted from the spot. Slightly against the run of play, the Leopards now had a glimpse of hope to find an equalizer.

Cal Lutheran would respond in the best way, scoring two goals in rapid succession to put the game out of reach.

Cate Boller got her name on the scoresheet for the first time this season in the 73rd minute. Zandra Stewart saw Boller in some space and played a sublime lobbed ball over the top of the defense for her forward to chase. Boller found herself in a one-on-one situation and took her opportunity with confidence, slotting it around the keeper to give the Regals some much-needed breathing room.

Just a few minutes later, Sam Cornejo bagged her second goal of the year when she rocketed a wonderful left-footed finish to the near post and watched it rise into the roof of the net to make the score 4-1 after a brilliant counter-attacking chance.

Recording shots on target for CLU were Janelle Effarah, Hannah Trengove, Darya Rasoli, Fagerberg (4), Boller (2), Garcia and Cornejo.

Emma Jonietz made her debut in goal for the Regals, relieving Gabby Flores late in the match.

Cal Lutheran extends their unbeaten streak to eight games and will look to make it six straight wins when they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. to face the Athenas.
