ALISO VIEJO, Calif.– Zandra Stewart, Alexandra Fagerberg and Mandy Crawford earned First Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) honors while teammates Trinity Martinez, Danielle Vis and Alexa Soto garnered Second Team recognition, representing the success of Cal Lutheran women's soccer.
CLU recorded the most All-SCIAC honorees with six, one more than Pomona-Pitzer's five.
Stewart (Santa Maria, Calif.) has been named to the First Team for the second straight year as a defender. The center back anchored the defensive back line for the Regals, as her excellent defending led her side to eight clean sheets on the season. Stewart has played and started in all 16 contests this season as her class on the backline has proved to be extremely valuable to CLU.
Earning First Team All-SCIAC honors for the first time in her career, Fagerberg (Austin, Texas) had a fantastic season as a forward for the Regals. The junior led the team in both goals (9) and points (22) while also adding four assists. Using her pace, dribbling and finishing ability, the forward has been in excellent goal-scoring form, scoring eight goals in her last 12 contests. Fagerberg garnered SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors, netting three goals while tallying an assist over the week when CLU beat No. 20 Trinity. Fagerberg has played and started in all 16 contests, leading her team from the front while netting three game-winning goals on the year.
In her first season at Cal Lutheran, Crawford (Simi Valley, Calif.) was outstanding as the team's central forward to garner First Team recognition. Using her excellent ability to hold up play and distribute the ball to her other attacking teammates, Crawford notched six assists on the year. The forward also put her finishing on display in her inaugural season, netting six goals including one game-winner. Crawford also earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week recognition for her stellar performance in the Regals' 3-0 win over La Verne. The freshman made her presence felt in the attack, scoring a goal and delivering an assist in the contest.
Playing an important right back role for the Regals was Martinez (Northridge, Calif.) who is earning SCIAC recognition for the second time. Also playing and starting in all 16 games, Martinez has been instrumental to Cal Lutheran's success this season. Her defending out wide has been phenomenal and the junior has shown her ability to help in the attack, bagging one goal while tallying two assists.
Vis (Fremont, Calif.) was also named to the Second Team for her attacking prowess during the season. Transitioning to a left-wing position after beginning the season at left back, Vis created havoc in the attacking third of the pitch, scoring three goals and dishing out two assists on the year. Her pace and dribbling ability has been huge for the Regals as she has helped her side to nine wins in their last 10 matches.
In goal for Cal Lutheran, Soto (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) earns Second Team honors after her stellar year between the posts. The goalkeeper has made 62 saves on the year for a 0.48 goals-against average. Soto has helped CLU to eight clean sheets with four shutouts of her own.
No. 2 Cal Lutheran will host No. 3 Chapman for the semifinal round of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. inside William Rolland Stadium.
