REDLANDS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran Women's Lacrosse was on the road Saturday afternoon for a conference matchup against the University of Redlands Bulldogs. The Regals played a strong second half, but were unable to erase a first half deficit in a 16-6 loss.

Cal Lutheran took the early lead when Meghan Angus scored off of an assist from Carmen Martinez, her first career point. Redlands responded with four goals before Angus netted her second of the game, this time on an assist from Josie Oparanaku, to make the score 4-2. The Bulldogs would then score another three goals to finish the first quarter with Regals down 7-2.

Redlands was able to take advantage of some unfortunate Cal Lutheran turnovers in the second quarter, scoring five straight goals. The bright spots for the Regals were goalkeeper Bella Bravo's three saves and a free position goal, while being fouled and sliding, on the wet grass from Oparanaku. This was her team leading fifth goal of the season which closed the half at a score of 12-3.

Cal Lutheran found their footing, quite literally, on the soggy field and changed the flow of the game throughout the second half. The Regals' offense outshot the Bulldogs, the defense picked up more ground balls, and the team controlled more draws in a highly competitive half.

Despite the Regal's efforts, the first two goals of the half went to Redlands. Then a Redlands' yellow card for dangerous contact gave the Regals a player advantage which junior Lauren Neal took advantage of for her first career goal. Another Redlands goal finished the period at 15-4.

The Bulldogs were able to muster one more goal to open the fourth quarter, but were stymied for the rest of the game by the Cal Lutheran defense. The Regals would claim the quarter with free position goals from Giselle Bonilla, her second of the season, and Sydney Shin, her fourth of the season.

The second half amounted to a one-goal game, but if was not enough to narrow the final score of 16-6.

The Regals will be back home at William Rolland Stadium at 7:00 pm on Tuesday to face the visiting Belles of St. Mary's (IN).
