Kingsmen 2nd at SCIAC Championships; Claim Eight Events

REDLANDS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran Men's Track and Field impressed at the SCIAC Championships as the Kingsmen claimed eight events, came in second eight times, and were third five more times.  The Purple and Gold finished in second with 79 points.

The meet came down to the final event, the 4x400 meter relay. The Kingsmen did what they needed to do, but the other half of the plan did not come to fruition. Redlands finished second in the race, and collected enough points to win the championship by just a single point.

Evan Cox, Brendon Carbullido, Jake MacKinnon, Connor Neufeld-Griffin, Chris Noji and Sebastian Sawyer all claimed individual events and the Kingsmen also took gold in the 4x400 meter relay.

Cox led the way with two individual wins, and the team win. He was first in the 110 meter hurdles with 15.10 seconds and then won the 400 meter hurdles with 54.53. He then combined with Dillon Chong, Franklin Ruvalcaba and Nicholas Abbinanti to win the 4x400 relay.

Carbullido used a big, last jump as he soared to the top of the podium. In the triple jump, his last mark was 12.96 meters. The length allowed him to jump from sixth all the way to first and win the event.

MacKinnon claimed a SCIAC Championship in his first championship meet. He threw the hammer 38.38 meters and won gold.

Neufeld-Griffin was big for the Kingsmen. In his first meet back with the team, he raced to a winning time in the 1,500 meter run. He clocked in with 3:56.48. He now has a SCIAC individual championship and also won the SCIAC Tournament Championship with the men's soccer team in 2017.

Noji showed out in the high jump. He cleared 1.72 meters and took home the gold.

Sawyer came out on fire and got the momentum going for the Kingsmen. In the first event of the day for the men, Sawyer claimed the 10,000 meter run with a time of 34.36.53.

The Regals have at least one more meet to compete at as individuals try and qualify for NCAA Championships.
