Kingsmen Have Six Champions at SCIAC Multi-Dual

REDLANDS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's track and field claimed six podiums as the Kingsmen opened the 2021 season at the SCIAC Multi-Dual on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Evan Cox and freshman Jake MacKinnon led the way with two victories each. 

Cox won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.30 seconds and then claimed the 400 meter hurdles with 54.71. MacKinnon showed out in his first collegiate meet. He won the discus (74.04 meters) and hammer (38.91m) and was also second in the shot put (10.90m). 

Junior Brendon Carbullido and freshman Sebastian Sawyer both added a gold. Carbullido won the long jump with 6.38 meters and then placed third in the triple jump with 12.50m. Sawyer also impressed in his first collegiate meet and won the 5,000 meter tun with 16:04.10. 

Turning in a runner-up finish was Nicholas Abbinanti in the 800 meter run with 1:59.74. Abbinanti then combined with junior Luke VanKeersbilck and freshmen Max Segeberg and Owen Brown to take second in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 3:27.61. 

Junior Connor Judd collected a silver and bronze during his meet. Judd was second in the high jump with 1.62m and was third in the javelin with 32.36m. VanKeersbilck also took third in the 800-meter run with 1:59.87. 

Competed in their first collegiate meet was Segeberg, Brown, Sawyer, Kurt Trocino (triple jump) and Timothy Thompson (discus, hammer).
