Kingsmen Take Five Events at Moorpark Invitational

MOORPARK, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's track and field continued its hot start to the spring and claimed five events at the Moorpark Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Evan Cox led the way with two wins as he took both hurdle events. He finished the 110 meter hurdles with 15.07 seconds and then won the 400 hurdles with 54.29. 

Nicholas Abbinanti and Sebastian Sawyer won gold in their respective events. Abbinanti ran to a first-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.08 and Sawyer paced the competition as he won the 5,000 meters with 15:53.70. 

The Kingsmen had one more victory as Dillon Chong, Cox, Anthony Napoli, and Franklin Ruvalcaba combined to win the 4 x 400 relay with 3:28.42. 

The Purple and Gold had four silvers on the day. Luke VanKeersbilck was second in the 800 meters with 2:01.57, Cooper Curtin was second in the pole vault as he cleared 4.26 meters, Brendon Carbullido was second in the triple jump with a distance of 11.99m and Chris Noji and Connor Judd tied for second in the high jump with 11.65m. 

Four more Kingsmen made the podium and took home bronze. Cal Lutheran swept the 800 meters as Max Segeberg grabbed third with 2:02.72. Jake MacKinnon took bronze in the shot put and hammer throw with 11.75m and 35.80m, respectively. Ruvalcaba rounded out the podium finishers and placed third in the 100 meters with 11.47.

In the shortened season, the next meet is the SCIAC Championships. The event is set for May 7 at 10 a.m.
