Kingsmen S&D Defeats Redlands, La Verne

LA VERNE, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's swimming and diving team defeated Redlands and La Verne at a triangular meet which was hosted by La Verne Saturday. The Kingsmen knocked off Redlands 119-118, and La Verne 160-34, as they won eight events.

Cal Lutheran's Ben Brewer, Andreas Nybo and Zach Zamecki each won two events.

Brewer claimed the 500- and 1,650-yard free with times of four minutes and 42.94 seconds and 16:25.83, respectively. Jonah Hobbs placed second in the same events as he touched in at 16:26.47 in the 1,650-yard free and 4:43.54 in the 500-yard free.

Zamecki claimed the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.40 and the 200-yard free with 1:44.74. Liam McCallum was second in the 200-yard free with 1:45.50 and Hobbs was third with 1:46.76.

Nybo took home gold in the 100-yard breast and the 200-yard individual medley with 58.34 and 1:56.01, respectively.

Two more Kingsmen won an individual event as Thelen McKinna-Worrell and Davy Thomas took home gold. Mckinna-Worrell was first in the 100-yard free with 47.75. Thomas touched in with 54.57 in the 100-yard back. McCallum was right behind Mckinna-Worrell in the 100-yard free and finished second with 49.15.

For relay events, Thomas, Brian Bender, Thomas Hamburger and Nick Kenny combined for a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with 3:44.09. The Kingsmen also took second in the 400-yard free relay as Mckinna-Worrell, Nybo, Jacob Frigard and Zamecki finished with 3:13.32.

The Kingsmen continue the season with the SCIAC Championships Feb. 21-24 in Commerce Calif.
