CLAREMONT, Calif.– Veronica Redpath put in an outstanding performance at the NCAA Regionals hosted by Pomona-Pitzer, leading Cal Lutheran with her finish at 21st overall to earn All-West Region honors for placing in the top-35.
Redpath has had a fantastic season for the Regals, posting the top time for her team at every race this season.
"Veronica, and her teammates, have been training hard all year and all that training payed off at the NCAA Division III West Regional Championships. I am very happy and proud of how Veronica raced as she executed a very strong race. Prior to the race, we had discussed being patient in the beginning of the race and attacking the second half of the race, Veronica did this extremely well," said Assistant Coach Brett Halvaks. "At the two-mile mark, a little over halfway into the race, Veronica was in a pack of women around 35-40th place. For the rest of the race, Veronica was consistently passing other competitors to finish 21st. This was an outstanding race for Veronica as she finished in 22nd place at the SCIAC Championships two weeks prior and finished in 55th in last year's NCAA Division III West Regional Championship. Veronica is a fearless competitor who has been awesome to coach as she is dedicated to her training while at the same time she always seems to have a smile on her face and makes sure she is having fun while training or racing."
The sophomore saved her best performance for when it mattered most as she finished 21st overall at the NCAA Regionals, her highest finish of the season while also setting a new course-best time.
With a time of 23:18.50, Redpath is the first Regal to earn All-West Region honors since 2013.
Redpath and Cal Lutheran look ahead to the fall of 2020 as they attempt to build upon a strong 2019 campaign.
