Redpath Places 104th to Lead Regals Cross Country at First Meet

BREA, Calif.— Cal Lutheran sophomore Veronica Redpath led the Regals at the Mark Covert Classic as she finished 104th with a time of 20.41.0. The meet was held at Carbon Canyon Regional Park and included many division one programs.

"The meet went really well, for it being the first meet of the year," said head coach Matt Lea. "The women's team ran great and it is always nice to get the jitters out of the way. We executed and performed perfectly."

Redpath set her course personal record (PR) and just missed being in the top-100 finishers by just three seconds.

SeniorRachel Ereso was the second Regal to cross the finish line as she placed 108th with a mark of 20:43.9. Sophomore Caroline Slate finished one minute faster than she did a year ago, setting her course PR, and finished in 114th with 20:52.1.

Junior Olivia Becker rounded out the Regals' group. She ran 20 seconds faster than the previous year and came in 147th with a time of 21:47.3.

"Our top three women ran nearly the whole race together," said assistant coach Brett Halvaks. "All four women ran either faster or within two seconds of their times from last year on this course. Our fourth woman today was faster than our third a year ago."

The Regals competed individually as five runners are needed to qualify for team scores.

Next up for the Regals is the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 14. The race takes place at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course in Riverside, Calif., and will start at 7:30 a.m.
