THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The 2020 season is here and Cal Lutheran women's track & field is ready to make some noise. The Regals' squad is made up of six seniors, two juniors, nine sophomores and eight seniors.
The senior class, looking to go out with a bang, is featured with Ana Cordoba, Kayla Cross, Kendall Guidetti, Jaclyn Mellring, Megan Pollock and Morgan Snyder.
Guidetti leads the way with an All-West Region and All-SCIAC honor from 2019. She won the long jump at the conference championships for the third straight year and qualified for the NCAA Championships. Guidetti placed 10thin the nation and broke her own program record with a length of 5.70 meters. It was the best NCAA finish, for the event, in Cal Lutheran's history.
The senior class has also broke its way into the record books. Guidetti holds the long jump record and is fifth in the 100-meters (12.17). Cordoba sits fourth in 100-meters (12.24) and fifth in 200-meters (25.75), Cross (3.25 meters) and Pollock (3.22 meters) are third and fifth in pole vault, respectively and Snyder is second in triple jump (11.19 meters) and fifth in javelin (33.31 meters). Mellring joins her classmates in long jump and triple jump events.
The junior class is the smallest with Olivia Becker and Kassi Brummett representing the Purple and Gold. Becker competes in long distance events, while Brummett will get her first SCIAC action as she transferred in.
The biggest class for Cal Lutheran this year is the sophomores. The class looks to grow on a strong freshmen campaign and step into more roles. It is made up of Sarah Briscoe, Samantha Carranza, Cassidy Fukuda, Veronica Redpath, Alyssa Reyes,Jasmine Rico, Caroline Slate, Brittany Toney and Denaya Wickett.
Redpath was an All-West Region selection for the cross country team. Joined by Slate, the duo will run long distance for the Regals. Competing in short distance events is Carranza, Fukuda, Reyes, Toney and Wickett. Rico will represent the Purple and Gold in the hurdles, Toney will also do long and triple jump and Briscoe joins track 7 field from the swimming & diving team.
The second to biggest class is the freshmen, which have eight new faces. Getting added to the mix of Regals is Jenna Boyd, Nancy Cancino, Daisy Clark, Ariana Gamble, Carly Jaeger, Ashley Kersey, Maylee Murillo and Zaria Opara.
The Regals start their 2020 season this weekend and compete at the On Your Marks Meet in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
