Regals Head to Redlands for SCIAC Championships

REDLANDS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran women's track and field team heads to Ashel Cunningham Track this weekend, April 27-28, for the 2018 SCIAC Track & Field Championships hosted by Chapman University. Events kick off at 4 p.m. PST both days.

The Regals enter the meet in fourth place with five points after three SCIAC Multi-Dual Meets, but have the opportunity to earn up to ten points per event at the championship meet.

The meet will be scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1- for all events. Nine athletes will advance to the finals in all field events and track events 800m and under. Twelve runners will race in the finals of the 1500m.

The Regals started the season off strong with six different athletes claiming event titles at the first SCIAC Multi-Duals of the year. 

Alexa Barnes recorded a 45.57 meter attempt in the hammer throw to set a new career-best and the fifth best mark in program history. Four weeks later, she went on to win second in the discus throw (35.26m) and hammer throw (41.34m) at SCIAC No. 2. Then, at SCIAC No. 3, she claimed the discus title with a 36.55 attempt and took second in the hammer throw with 44.30 meters. 

Jay Rhambo also took home the shot put title at SCIAC No. 1, throwing 10.70 in the shotput. She followed that performance with the fourth-best mark in program history, throwing for 11.50 meters at the SCIAC No. 3. 

Rounding out the group of throwers taking home a title at SCIAC No. 1, Morgan Snyder went 28.96 meters in the javelin throw. She also took home second in the triple jump at SCIAC No.3 with 11.11 meters, the third-best mark in school history. 

Another jumper, Kendall Guidetti, won the long jump title at all three SCIAC multi-duals. She recorded her best distance of 5.63 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 8, the fourth-best jump in program history. On the track, she helped Anna Schlosser, Stephanie Williamson and Ana Cordoba to a second place finish (49.44) in the 4x100 relay at SCIAC No. 2. 

Cordoba is also the fifth Regal to claim a title at SCIAC No. 1. She took the podium with a career-best 12.41-second 100-meter dash and took second at the second SCIAC at 12.51 seconds. 

Erin MacNeil rounds out the six, taking home the 3000 meter steeplechase title at SCIAC No. 1 with a career best 12:12.68, but then continued to dominate the event and won the event again at SCIAC No. 3 with a time of 12:46.44. 

Other names to watch include Katie Young and Kelsey Rouse. Young took second in the 3000-meter steeplechase at SCIAC No. 2 (12:57.69) and Rouse is currently tied for the fourth in Cal Lutheran record books with a 1.55-meter high jump. She also took second in the 100-meter hurdles after recording the eighth-best time of 15.90 in school history at SCIAC No. 3.
