Six Regals Finish Top Ten, Send Three More to Finals at SCIAC Championships

REDLANDS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Regals recorded seven top-ten finishes on day one of the SCIAC Track & Field Championship and three additional track athletes qualified for Saturday's finals. Kendall Guidetti took home the women's long jump title to lead the field group to a total of 30 points for the team. 

Guidetti jumped 5.67 meters Friday afternoon to win the women's long jump for the second year in a row, edging out the second place finisher by just .01 meters. Her top finish earned ten points for Cal Lutheran.

Also bringing in a bulk of the team's points on day one, Alexa Barnes picked up eight points with her second place finish in the discus throw (38.31 meters) and three more points with her sixth place finish in the shotput (10.16 meters). 

Two other throwers reached the top ten as well. Jay Rhambo marked 11.02 meters in the shotput to finish fourth for five points, and Kate Cochran threw for 34.89 meters in the discus throw to finish seventh for two more points. 

Collecting the final two points, Megan Polluck and Erin MacNeil finished eighth in their respective events to pick up a point each. Polluck jumped 2.92 meters in the pole vault and MacNeil ran the 3000m steeplechase in 12:14.65 minutes. 

The weekend is far from over for the Regals though as four athletes qualified for Saturday's finals. 

Ana Cordoba leads the group, qualifying for both the 100m and 200m dash. She ran a 12.39 in the 100m to finish second in her heat and sixth overall in the prelims. She followed with a 25.75 in the 200m to finish third in the heat and ninth overall in the prelims. 

Rachel Ereso also qualified for the 1500m run after running a 4:55.10 in the prelims, finishing third in her hear and seventh overall. Guidetti also returns for day two to race in the finals for the 100m dash. She finished third in her heat and eighth overall with a 12.64 run.

Day two's events kick off at 4 p.m. PST at Ashel Cunningham Track in Redlands, Calif.
