WHITTIER, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Regals split Saturday's results in the final conference tri-meet of the season, taking down the Whittier Poets 148-117 and falling to the Redlands Bulldogs 199-97.

"Both the men and the women had to accomplish things in races in order to win the close meets. The captains made sure we got every point possible. They made sure the kids knew the score and the situation each event all the way to the end," said head coach Barry Schreifels, "The team has evolved into a situation where they swim for each other. They are willing to do any event if it helps CLU win. And the captains have created that team dynamic."

A quartet of Regals picked up first place finishes of the day. Junior Emily Sharpe took first in the 200-free (2:03.67), and later second in the 500-free (2:35.96) and third in the 400-free relay alongside senior Grace Sanchez, sophomore McKenzie Kelly and freshman Brieyana Walton

Also with a top finish of her own, Kelly claimed first in the 200-butterfly (2:17.41) then second in the 1650-free (19:14.46). Junior Jessica Van der Laan picked up first in the 500-free (5:31.67), while Sanchez drew first in the 50-free (24.47) and third in the 100-free (55.89). And rouding out the group of podium finishers, junior Emily Glass secured second in the 200-breaststroke (2:35.96).

The season all comes down to February 21-24 when Cal Lutheran returns to the pool in Commerce, California, for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
