Underclassman Shine at CLU Sprint Meet

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Swim and Dive team faced off against the Chapman Panthers in the non-conference CLU Sprint Meet, Saturday morning, inside of Samuelson Aquatics Center. The Kingsmen took home eight titles while the Regals notched four of their own. 

Freshman Miles Gaitan and junior Ben Brewer led the pack on the men's side, each tabbing three first place finishes. 

Gaitin took home first in the 50-yard backstroke at 25.48 and in the 100-yard backstroke at 54 seconds flat. He also joined sophomore Brandon Alvarez and junior Jack Hartwell in the 200-yard medley relay to finish first once again at 1:41.42. 

Brewer led in the 100-yard butterfly at 54.79 and in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:47.52. He then raced with sophomore Liam McCallum and freshman Andrew Meneses to take home first in the men 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:18.55. 

McCallum additionally placed first in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.66 and Alvarez took home the 50-yard breaststroke title at 28.69. Rounding out the Kingsmen, freshman Brendan Fuggles finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:04.61 and freshman Vincent Hemingway in the 100-yard individual medley at 57.04. 

On the women's side, freshman Brieyana Walton got things going for the Regals with first in the 50-yard breaststroke at 32.88. Sophomores Emily Sharpe and Emily Glass then took home first in the 200-free (2:05.53) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.76), respectively. Rounding out the first-place finishes, junior Anna Lundsten took home the title in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:08.51. 

Swim and Dive now looks ahead to their first conference matchup against the Caltech Beavers on Saturday, November 10, at Braun Pool in Pasadena, California.
