ALISO VIEJO, Calif. –Cal Lutheran women's water polo student-athletes Kristi McGee and Bailey Meyer were named to the 2018 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First Team while teammates Victoria Rose Meek and Nikki Roed garnered Second Team honors. The All-SCIAC teams were announced Thursday morning following a vote by the league's member head coaches.
The Regals tied with Pomona-Pitzer for the most student-athletes named to the All-SCIAC teams. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was next with three. Whittier and La Verne had two garner recognition and Redlands and Chapman both had one.
McGee was named to the First Team for the second consecutive year. A senior from Agoura Hills, Calif., she is tied for the most goals on the team with 35. She has 94 attempts on goal and has a shooting percentage of .372. She is a center-defender and leads Cal Lutheran with 40 steals. McGee also has 14 assists, 39 drawn ejections and four field blocks. She earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week once. For her career, she is currently tied for seventh in program history for drawn ejections (110) and is 10th in goals (107).
Meyer garnered First Team All-SCIAC for the first time in her career. She was named to the Second Team last season. Meyer is a junior from Santa Ana, Calif., and is the starting goalkeeper for the Regals. She was a wall in front of the net and made 284 saves. She played in 101 quarters and only allowed 118 goals. Her 284 saves rank second in the CLU record books for most in a season. She has also contributed 31 steals and 12 assists. She was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week once. She has made 588 saves in her career, which ranks third-most in program history.
Meek earned her first All-SCIAC honor as she was named to the Second Team. A sophomore from Coronado, Calif., Meek has made an immediate impact for the Regals during her first two seasons. She plays center for Cal Lutheran and leads the team with 50 drawn ejections. She has an impressive shooting percentage of .455 and has scored the third-most goals on the team with 31. She has also recorded 20 steals and 10 assists. She was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week once. For her career, her 110 drawn ejections are tied for the seventh most in program history.
Roed was named to the Second Team for the second straight season. A junior from Seattle, Wash., Roed is a utility player for the Regals. She is tied for first on the team with 35 goals and has a shooting percentage of .347. She is a two-way player and also ranks second in steals with 38. She contributed 22 drawn ejections and 11 assists. She was named a SCIAC Athlete of the Week once. For her career, she ranks ninth in program history with 112 goals. She also ranks eighth on drawn ejections with 85.
Pomona Pitzer's Jocelyn Castro was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year, La Verne's Jassmine Kezman is the Newcomer of the Year and Pomona-Pitzer's Alex Rodriguez and his staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Regals advanced to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament for the second straight year. Cal Lutheran will host CMS in the semifinals Friday at 4 p.m. in the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
