Regals Top No. 11 CMS, No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer at SCIAC #1; Cornejo is Runner-up

LONG BEACH, Calif.. — Cal Lutheran women's golf sits in second place after SCIAC #1 with a score of 53-over-par on Sunday afternoon.

This was the first leg of the SCIAC Championship. The teams compete in two rounds at SCIAC #1 and #2 and then three rounds at the SCIAC Championships. All seven rounds count for the team total for a SCIAC Championship.

The teams competed at the El Dorado Golf Course with 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday. The Regals, the 26th team in the nation according to Golfstat.com, are ahead of No. 11 CMS and No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer. The Regals are in second, 11 strokes behind the leader, with 629 total strokes (318-311)..

Claire Cornejo was the runner-up and her 36-hole score of 147 is the third lowest in program history. She fired a 3-over-par with 74 strokes on day one and 73 on day two. 

Ashley Zook made it two Regals in the top five. She tied for fourth at 11-over-par. She shot a 79 on Saturday and improved with a 76 on Sunday for a total of 155 strokes.

Tara Ng finished just outside the top-10 and was 11th at 16-over-par with 160 strokes (79-81). Jett Legacion tied for 23rdand finished with 23-over-par and 167 strokes (86-81). Grace Mitchell rounded out the Regals and was 26th with 27-over-par and 171 strokes (90-81).

Up next for the Regals is the Schreiner Invitational. Cal Lutheran will head to San Antonio, Texas, on March 6-7.
