Eight-Run Sixth Inning Propels Kingsmen to Game Three, Series Win; Bullard Hits Four Homeruns in Series

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran baseball scored eight runs in the sixth inning of game three, winning 9-8, and took the series from the La Verne Leopards.

It was senior day at George "Sparky" Ander Field at Ullman Stadium. The Kingsmen celebrated their three seniors before the game, Zach Hardman, Nick Rhoades and Mason Snodgrass.

Zach Bullard led the fireworks with two homeruns, one in each game. He also hit two in game one, giving him four homeruns during the three-game series. The Purple abnd Gold won games one and three to take the lone series this year with the Leopards. 

Cal Lutheran fell in game one, 7-6, in 10 innings. Snodgrass was on the hill and went 6.2 innings. He faced 30 batters and only gave up six hits and two earned runs.

On the offensive side, Ryan Farr got the Kingsmen on the board with a 2-run double to right center in the bottom of the second. 

La Verne answered with two runs in the top of the third and one run in the fifth to take their first lead. Que Bullard, as he smashed his third homerun in two games, and tied the game. 

CLU then took back the lead as Rhoades scored a run on a wild pitch in the fifth and got a RBI on a sac fly in the seventh. After exchanging runs in the eighth, La Verne tied the game in the ninth and won in the tenth. 

The Leopards carried that momentum to the second game and took an early 6-0 lead. La Verne opened with four runs in the first and one in the second and fourth, getting to Nathan Chapman and Gregory Pimentel. The duo combined for four innings.

Tristan Dupont came in for the next 3.2 innings. He allowed just two hits and struck out one batter while facing 15 Leopards.

The Kingsmen bats got to the La Verne, but the Purple and Gold were not able to capitalize through five innings. CLU broke through in the bottom of the sixth as Cade Edmondson delivered a 2-run double to right center. 

Joseph Scalzo was up next and made it back-to-back doubles. Edmondson raced home and the Kingsmen cut the score in half at 6-3. Nick Fusari made it three doubles in a row, tallied a RBI, and the lead was only 6-4. The Kingsmen scored eight runs total in the inning and took an 8-6 lead. Austin Carillo, Rhoades (two) and Brendan Durfee added RBI. 

Matt Campo was the next reliever for the Kingsmen. With two outs, and runners on first and second, Campo got the Leopard batter to ground out to second.

Bullard added to the run total in the bottom of the eight and smashed a solo homerun shot. It gave him his fourth for the series.

Clay Rickerman was brought in for the ninth and acquired runners on first and second. He got the save, with two unearned runs, and Dupont earned the win. 

Cal Lutheran ends the regular season with a three-game series with Chapman. The Kingsmen host the first game on Friday at 3 p.m.
