THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran baseball came out on top in a close fight with La Verne as Zach Bullard homered to right field for a game winning RBI, giving the Kingsmen a 4-3 win in 10 innings.
Bullard led the team with two runs, both of which were from solo homers. He put the Kingsmen on top in the top of the 10th and he also hit one to right center field at the top of the sixth.
Kyle Reuser and Daniel Parr each added a run as well. Bullard led the team with his two RBIs, Reuser had one, and Sean Blandino contributed one.
On the defensive side, Alexander Rivas pitched for seven innings and had eight strike outs on the day. He faced 31 batters and allowed just five hits.
Clay Rickerman and Zach Hardman also saw the mound. Hardman pitched two innings and got the win, improving his to a record of 2-2. He had three strikeouts and gave up just one hit.
The Kingsmen offense performed well today with 11 hits, three of which came from Nick Fusari.
La Verne had one run in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh, but the Purple and Gold were able to control the end of the game. The Leopard's defense brought out four pitchers to face the Cal Lutheran offense and tallied just eight total strikeouts to Cal Lutheran's 11.
With this win, Cal Lutheran moves to a record of 6-6, with a conference mark of 6-4.
The Kingsmen are back in action on Sunday and host La Verne in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 11 a.m
