Kingsmen Fall to Antelope Valley in Pitcher's Duel

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — In a rematch with Antelope valley, Cal Lutheran baseball came up just short and lost 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

It was a pitchers dual as the offenses only accounted for five hits and one earned run. Mason Snodgrass was on the bump for the Kingsmen and pitched 5.1 innings. He struck out five batters, gave up just three hits and the one run due to an error.

Snodgrass was replaced by Zach Hardman who gave the Kingsmen a fighting chance as he went the rest of the way. He struck out two batter, allowing zero hits and one run in 3.2 innings.

The Cal Lutheran pitchers put the Kingsmen in position to win, but the Purple and Gold offense went up lefty Isaiah Ramos. The lefty pitcher for Antelope Valley impressed as he pitched 8.0 innings. He struck out 13 batters, and only gave up two hits and one earned run.

The game was a shutout through four innings until UAV finally broke the seal in the fifth. The Kingsmen answered an inning later. After one out and a Kyle Reuser walk, Brendan Durfee singled up the middle and the Kingsmen were in business. Ben Wangrin hit into a fielder's choice to push the runner to second and third. Reuser would score on a wild pitch during the next at-bat.

It didn't take long for Antelope Valley to take the lead back and they did so in the top of the seventh. The Kingsmen were shut out down the stretch as the Pioneers won 2-1.

The Kingsmen get back in to SCIAC play next weekend. Cal Lutheran is at Chapman on Friday for a game at 3 p.m.
