Women’s Water Polo Advances to SCIAC Postseason Tournament Final

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The No. 1 ranked Cal Lutheran Regals water polo advanced to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship game after an 18-11 victory over La Verne.

The Purple and Gold have an undefeated record on the 2021 season as Saturday afternoon marked their sixth straight win. They look to keep it going tomorrow at their home pool.

Izzy De Souza was in goal and had 18 saves on the afternoon as well as two assists. She got the win on the day.

The team had a strong second quarter as they put up seven goals in that quarter alone, and there was a lot of excitement as Cal Lutheran led 11-5 at halftime.

Lexi Rond led the team in scoring with six goals, and Katherine Knight was not far behind as she added five more goals to the Regal's total. Jessica Diaz also contributed four goals and Elyse Koe added two.

Kaitlin Gardhouse helped the offense keep their momentum and had four assists of the team's 14. She also added one steal. La Verne tried to get back into it with back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter, but the Regal's were able to keep their lead going.

Rond also grabbed the most draw exclusions with five and Knight had two of her own. Koe and Kemi Dijkstra each had two steals to help De Souza's strong defensive effort.
