No. 1 Regals Stay Undefeated; Knock Off Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. — The No. 1 Cal Lutheran women's water polo team continued to run through their competition and cruised by Chapman 22-10 on Saturday to stay undefeated.

The Regals picked up their fourth win, and defeated their second SCIAC opponent. The goal-differential has been huge for the Regals this spring. The Purple and Gold have outscored their competition 73-27, and scored 20-plus points twice.

Lexi Rond and Bethany Metcalfe led the way, offensively. Both shot extremely well as Rond made seven goals on eight shots and Metcalf added four goals on six shots.

Jessica Diaz and Kaitlin Gardhouse made it four Regals with hat tricks as they both recorded three goals. Gardhouse and Metcalf helped facilitate the ball with four and three assists, respectively. Gardhouse also led the team with four drawn ejections.

Izzy De Souza was in goal and secured the win. She tallied 18 saves and added a steal.

Chapman kept the game close in the first quarter as Cal Lutheran was up just 5-4. The Regals' offense opened it up in the second quarter, and the defense also clamped down, as the Purple and Gold outscored the Panthers 6-1.

The Regals continued with that same intensity in the third quarter, allowing just one goal and scoring five. CLU held a commanding 16-6 lead heading to the fourth. The Regals cruised the rest of the way and won easily, 22-10.

The Regals have one more game before the SCIAC Tournament. Cal Lutheran host Redlands on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
