Regals Sweep Occidental Tigers

GLENDALE, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran Regals faced off against the Occidental Tigers for their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup of the season, taking opening weekend with a 9-0 sweep. 

Kicking off doubles play, senior Sarah Seeman and freshman Carolina Groff Hinojosa took a win on court three, winning 8-1. Following on court two was freshman Nicole Alvarez and junior JoAnn Taylor, taking a win 8-2. Lastly on court one, freshman Lilijana Peters-Semak and senior Christie Kurdys won 8-5. 

Moving on to singles play, Alvarez finished on court four with scores of 6-2 and 6-1, taking the first singles win for the Regals on the day.

The last singles win of the day by Taylor was on court six, the longest set on the day finishing with a super tiebreaker. Taylor finished with final scores of 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8). 

Following on court five, Brennan Foreman took a win with scores of 6-1 and 6-1. On court one, Semak finished 6-3, 6-3; court two had Kurdys finishing 6-2, 6-1; and court three had Seeman taking a win 6-2, 7-5.

The Cal Lutheran Regals look to start a winning streak when they travel to face UC Santa Cruz on March 3, at 12 pm PST.
