Marinesi Named Academic All-America

AUSTIN, TexasKendall Marinesi of Cal Lutheran softball was selected to the 2020 Academic All-America Softball Team by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award features a first, second and third team. 

Two-time Academic All-District as a junior and senior, Marinesi capped of her four-year career with Second Team All-America honors. She was the only player from the SCIAC named Academic All-America. 

"Kendall is the epitome of a student-athlete: committed to excellence in the classroom and on the field," said softball head coach Debby Day. "She has been invaluable to our program as a player and leader, and will make an excellent teacher."

Marinesi (Santee, Calif.) has been a focal point of the offense and the defense during her career at Cal Lutheran. With her senior year being cut short, she has still made her mark in the CLU record books. She sits third with 15 home runs and a slugging percentage of .713. She tied the program's season mark for home runs in 2019 with 12. In her four-year career, Marinesi hit .393 with 118 hits, 29 doubles, 86 RBI, 68 runs and has a fielding percentage of .932. During a fantastic junior year, she was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week while hitting .565 with five homers, four doubles, two triples and 18 RBI. She drove in 40-percent of the team's runs during the six-game stretch. 

The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Marinesi, a third baseman for the Regals, had a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) while majoring in interdisciplinary education studies.
