LA VERNE, Calif.— Cal Lutheran softball came up empty on Saturday as La Verne shut out the Regals in the first game, 8-0, and then took the second game, 11-3, on Saturday afternoon as the Leopards stole the series.

After winning the first game of the series on Friday, the Regals could not get things going in the next two as they dropped to 2-4 in conference play and 5-7 overall.

Meghan Henry and Brittany Workman used combined efforts from the mound to pitch in the first game of the Regals doubleheader against the Leopards. It wasn't enough to fend off the 8 runs and 10 hits that resulted with La Verne on top.

In the second game, Cal Lutheran got the offense going as Celeste Ekman smashed her first home run of the year. Lauren Salvati led the Purple and Gold with two RBI and Marissa Alfaia was key with two runs. However, La Verne's 14 hits and 11 RBI, resulted in the Leppards taking the second game.

Game One
With just three hits in the game, the Regals did not have enough offensive momentum to carry them over the Leopards.

Henry tallied three strikeouts, and on the offensive side, the Regals were only struck out twice by La Verne's pitcher. Workman also had a strikeout, resulting in four strikeouts for the Regals.

There were six times that Cal Lutheran had players left of base, but none of these would be capitalized on throughout the 6 innings of play.

Game Two
Both teams came out looking to take the series and each team scored one run in the second inning. The next runs wouldn't be scored until the fourth inning, where La Verne outscored Cal Lutheran 6-1, resulting in a 7-2 deficit for the Regals heading into the fifth inning.

Olivia Serrano pitched 3.2 innings and had three strikeouts. Sienna Perez and Taryn Faull helped to close out the game for the Regals and added one more strikeout to the final tally.

The CLU pitching staff did not allow any home runs, but the Leopards could not say the same. Ekman hit one out of the park at the top of the sixth inning adding to the Regals total of 3 runs.

The Regals could not recover from the Leopards' six runs in the fourth inning, as they added 4 more runs at the bottom of the sixth to close out the game. Cal Lutheran's batters, with just 6 hits, could not keep up with La Verne on the offensive side.

Cal Lutheran continues the season back at home and host Williamette for a doubleheader, starting at noon, on March 21.
