Regals Open Conference 1-1

CLAREMONT, Calif. — It was the conference opener for the Cal Lutheran softball team as the Regals took on Pmona-Pitzer. The Sagehens won the first game 8-1, and the Regals bounced back to win the second game 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Wig Beach Field.

The Regals (4-2, 1-1 SCIAC) gave the Sagehens (3-1, 1-1 SCIAC) their first loss of the season as they took game two.

Cal Lutheran's Brittany Workman got her first win of the season as she pitched a complete game in the second game of the day. Over the seven innings, she only allowed seven hits and one run, while striking out three.

The Regals got on the board in the top of the first when Olivia Leyva singled home Catherine Slabaugh. Pomona-Pitzer tied up the game in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fifth, Leyva notched her second RBI of the game as she singled. Antonia Rapisardi came into score. Kendall Marinesi added an RBI in the fifth and the seventh and the Regals held on to win 4-1.

In the first game, Pomona-Pitzer opened up the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Cal Lutheran couldn't recover as the Sagehens went on to win 8-1.

The Regals return home and host Linfield (Ore.) Monday in a double header at 12 and 2 p.m. at Hutton Field.
