Men’s Golf Win CLU Kingsmen Invitational by One Stroke; Hahn is Runner-Up

MOORPARK, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's golf team won their own CLU Kingsmen Invitational by one stroke as they finished at 43-over-par with 619 strokes The Kingsmen fired the best round of the tournament on Monday, a 300, and then shot a 319 on day two to hold off Redlands. 

Sophomore Derek Hahn led the way for the Kingsmen. He fired the team's lowest round, an even score of 72 on Monday. He followed it up with a 79 on day two and was the runner-up with 151 strokes. 

The CLU Kingsmen Invitational featured three teams, Cal Lutheran, Chapman and Redlands, and 17 individuals. The golfers played 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday at Moorpark Country Club.

Junior Jimmy Solano and Senior Drake Jones were the next two Kingsmen finishers and only two strokes separated them. Solano placed third with 154 strokes and finished with rounds of 74 and 80, respectively. Jones tied for fourth and tallied 75 on Monday and 81 on Tuesday for a total of 156. 

Sophomore JP Guimaraes Jr. rounded out the team's winning score and tied for 7th with 158 strokes. He was consistent as he finished with 79 strokes on each day.

Two freshmen also played for CLU. Garet Needham competed for the team score and Jack Spar was an individual. Both freshmen recorded 165 strokes and tied for 12th.

The Kingsmen are back in action on March 27-28 for the Redlands Invitational at The S Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
