Where Are They Now: Brodie Munro

We continue our "Where Are They Now" series with men's golfer, Brodie Munro. During his time at Cal Lutheran, Munro impressed and was named a NAIA All-American in 1991. He led the team on the course and totaled a program record 10 dual wins. He competed with Kingsmen golf for two seasons and has the fourth-lowest stroke average over a two-year stretch with 76.03. Now, Munro owns an insurance agancy and is assistant coach for the Cal Lutheran golf teams.

What years where you at Cal Lutheran and what made you want to come here?
1989 - 1991 and I wanted a small school in CA.

While at Cal Lutheran, what was your experience like?
I worked very hard while at CLU. Class sizes were small so there was not way out of doing all your schoolwork (LOL). I was on the golf team and I had a 30 hour per week job.

How was your experience with the team and other athletes?
I had a great experience with the golf team and other athletes. I was lucky I had a great coach. Because the school was so small, athletes in all sports kind of stuck together and helped each other where possible. I still keep in contact with many athletes from CLU (golf, tennis, football and basketball).

What is your current job, and how did Cal Lutheran prepare you for that?
I own an Insurance Agency (30 years and counting) and my business administration degree taught me a lot about "Business" and many of my classes were taught by former and current small business owners. CLU taught me that when it comes to "Success" that there is no substitute for a lot of "Hard Work."

How did being a student-athlete prepare you for your professional career?
It taught me about winning and losing and that if you want to "Win/Perform Well" that you have to work very hard and never give up!!!!!

What is your favorite part about the job?
I get to protect people and help them protect their future. I also have the freedom to work as hard as I want and then take a little time off to spend time with family and/or help others.

What is a typical day at your job?
After 30 years at my job I still arrive at work by 9am and I leave when my work is done. I usually work until 6pm but it is not unusual to work until 7pm or 8pm. I have to help and communicate with customers most of the day. I often problem solve and provide solutions as to how to properly protect assets and unforeseen exposures. I LOVE IT!!!!

Did you know you always wanted to do this, or when did you know what you wanted to do?
I have always liked helping and protecting people and when I was about 15 years old I decided that I would own my own insurance agency.

What does it mean to you to be a Kingsmen?
To me, a Kingsmen and a Regal are CLU! Both of those Mascots display a lot of hard work and success in a classroom and/or on any field of play.
