Women’s Swimming and Diving Places Fourth

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's swimming and diving team scored 293 points and placed fourth at the Chris Knorr Invitational which was held Friday and Saturday at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.

The Chris Knorr Leadership Award was given out to one male and female swimmer who best exemplifies some of Chris's best leadership qualities. Cal Lutheran's Jonah Hobbs and Chapman's Mary Welton were honored with the award.

Cal Lutheran's Mardell Ramirez led the Regals with two runner-up finishes. She placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with time of one minute and 59.71 seconds and then the 200-yard backstroke with 2:14.90.

Ramirez then combined with Alexia Rojas, Emily Glass and Grace Sanchez for third-place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:15.63.

Rojas went on to place third in the 200-yard butterfly with 2:14.95 and was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly as she touched in with 1:01.72. Sanchez finished in the top-five for one individual event as she took home fourth in the  

In the diving portion, Carlie Burow took home sixth for the three-meter dive with 163.35 points and Kimberly Mehl was ninth on the one-meter dive with a score of 165.

Fresno Pacific University claimed the women's title with 1,020 points. Pomona-Pitzer was second with 594 and Chapman was third with 294. Cal Lutheran was one-point back in fourth with 293 and UC Santa Cruz was fifth with 235.

The Regals continue the season with a dual verses Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
