Regals S&D Defeats Redlands, La Verne

LA VERNE, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran women's swimming and diving team defeated Redlands, for the first time in program history, and La Verne at a triangular meet which was hosted by La Verne Saturday. The Regals knocked off Redlands 123-117, and La Verne 154-82, as they won six events.

CLU was led by Mardell Ramirez as she won three events. She won each event she competed in. She took home gold in the 200-yard free with a time of one minute and 55.45 seconds. She then won the 100-yard backstroke with a quick time of 1:01.75. She also won the 500-yard freestyle with 5:12.59.

CLU swept the 500-yard free as Melody Pope and Emily Sharpe placed second and third, respectively, with times of 5:25.42 and 5:31.58.

Two more Regals claimed individual events. Grace Sanchez won two events as she took home the 50- and 100-yard frees with times of 24.75 and 55.72, respectively. McKenzie Kelly made it six individual wins as she won the title for the 1,650-yard free with 18:58.93.

Four more Regals were runner-up in their perspective event. Brianna Baldwin was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.89).  Kelsey Daehiln was second on the three-meter dive with 170.60 points. Emily Glass was runner-up in the 100-yard breast with 1:13.13. Kimberly Mehl placed second on the one-meter dive with 213.50 points.

The Regals continue the season with the SCIAC Championships Feb. 21-24 in Commerce Calif.
