Regals Fall to Whitworth at Home

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's lacrosse had a defensive showing against Whitworth, but the offense couldn't get on track as the Regals fell 13-3 to the Pirates on Thursday night. 

Bella Bravo was in goal and kept her squad in the game. She had 31 shots come her way and turned back 18 of them. Her 18 saves tied for the second-most in program history for a game. 

Meghan Angus led the offense with two kills and Josie Oparanaku had one more. Angus added five ground balls, Oparanaku had three draw controls and Hali'a Cannon and Kaitlyn Gill caused two turnovers each. Angus' five ground balls tied for the third-most in program history. 

Whitworth scored the first goal of the game and Cal Lutheran was quick to answer as Angus scored her first. The Pirates scored the next five goals and were up 6-1 at the end of the first. 

The Regals opened the quarter with a goal as Angus scored her second. The Pirates answered with four goals and had a 9-2 lead at the half. The defense picked up in the second half and Whitworth outscored the Regals 2-0 in the third. Oparanaku scored her goal in the fourth, but the Pirates took the game. 

The Regals hit the road for their next three games. Cal Lutheran is at Pacific on Sunday at 6 p.m.
