THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's lacrosse started the 2023 season at home and hosted Whittier to kick off their new campaign. The Poets handled the Regals and won the game 25-1 on Wednesday.

Sydney Shin scored the first goal of the season for the Regals. It was also the first goal of her collegiate year and Kendall Fleming got the assist.

Bella Bravo was in goal and had the first saves of her collegiate career and totaled six.

Shin and Bravo led the way with three ground balls each and Anna Ripka had two more. Shin, Ripka and Giselle Bonilla all had two draw controls each. Josie Oparanaku and Leila Bauwens both had two caused turnovers.

Whittier jumped all over the Regals and were up 7-0 after the first quarter. The Poets scored the first 11 goals of the game before Cal Lutheran got on the board. It was time to learn for a young Regals team as the Poets took the win.

The Regals continue the season on Sunday. Cal Lutheran is at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with the game set for 1 p.m.
