Regals Claim Five Events at Moorpark Invitational

MOORPARK, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's track and field collected five gold medals at the Moorpark Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Isabella Molony and Denaya Wickett both led the way with two event wins. Wickett won the 400 meters with one minute and 1.64 seconds, Molony grabbed first in high jump with 1.55 meters and the duo combined with Samantha Carranza and Cassidy Fukuda to win the 4 x 400 relay with 4:10.91.

Zaria Opara continued to impress and was at the top of the podium for the shot put with 10.44 meters. The Regals added one more gold as Jolie Caya won the 100 hurdles with 17.21.

The podium finishes kept rolling in for the Regals. Sarah Bjornson claimed two silver medals in the 100 hurdles with 17.69 and the high jump as she cleared 1.50m. Caya then snagged second in the long jump with 4.84m and Opara took silver in the discus with 37.99m. Ariana Gamble added a silver in the hammer with a throw of 34.30m. 

The Purple and Gold had six bronze finishers on the day. The list included Carranza (100 meters, 13.15), Wickett (200 meters, 27.04), Olivia Becker (1,500 meters, 5:08.93), Ashley Kersey (100 hurdles, 18.06), Caya (400 hurdles, 1:15.48) and Opara (hammer, 33.33m).

In the shortened season, the next meet is the SCIAC Championships. The event is set for May 7 at 10 a.m.
