Regals Finish 2nd at SCIAC Championships; Win Four Events

REDLANDS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran Women's Track and Field took home second at the SCIAC Championships as the Regals won four events on Saturday. The Purple and Gold scored 51.5 points and locked down second place. 

Olivia Becker, Sarah Bjornson, Zaria Opara and Veronica Redpath each won an event to lead the Regals. The team added five more runner-up finishes and made it on the podium four more times.

Becker led off the championships with a wire-to-wire win. She claimed the 10,000 meter run with a time of 40 minutes and 45.52 seconds. She made it in the CLU record book as her time was sixth fastest. 

At her first SCIAC Championships, Bjornson claimed her first SCIAC title. She won the high jump as she cleared 1.47 meters. 

Opara competed almost all of the throwing events. She claimed one gold medal and made it to the top of the podium in the shot put. She threw for a distance of 10.66 meters and won the event. 

Redpath coasted to a win in the 5,000 meter run. She recorded a time of 18:55.87 which is the ninth fastest time in school history. 

The Regals have at least one more meet to compete at as individuals try and qualify for NCAA Championships.
