Seniors Go Out on Top; Regals Basketball Defeats Redlands for Third Time

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Seniors go out on top as Cal Lutheran Women's basketball defeated Redlands 72-64 on Wednesday night.

Tea Carbullido, Jade Jordan, Taylor Oshiro and Jozie Tangeman were honored before the game. They helped the Regals defeat Redlands three time this year and finished with a 4-1 record in the 2020-21 athletic year.

Ca Lutheran put on a shooting display and was 49.2-percent from the field (29-59), 45.8 from three-point range (11-24) and 75 from the free throw line (3-4). The defense also did its part, holding the Bulldogs to 34.4-percent.

Tangeman led the senior group with 15 points, hitting three three-pointers and going 6-of-10 from the field.

Cameron Mallory was the high-scorer, totaling 22 points, and hitting five threes. Two more Regals scored in double-digits as Alyssa Maxey and Grace Godines recorded 12 and 10, respectively.

Oshiro started off senior night with a three, setting the tone for the game. The first quarter went back and forth as Redlands went up 13-10. CLU answered with five straight and took a lead after one quarter.

As the Regals made increased their lead in the second quarter, Redland would always answer and kept it close.

Cal Lutheran would hit big shot after bog shot, continuing to hold a lead over Redlands. With 2:46 left in the third, Mallory hit back-to-back threes. She was fouled on the second three and converted on the free throw for the four-point play.

The Purple and Gold would push their lead to 11 with 34 seconds left as Ashley Sahnazoglu drove to the basket for a driving layup.

Cal Lutheran held a double-digit lead for most of the fourth quarter as the Regals coasted to victory. The bench showed up for the Regals, outscoring the Bulldogs 46 to zero.

Mackenzy Iwahashi facilitated the ball and had a team-high six assists. She contributed eight points, with some clutch baskets. She also tied for the team lead in rebounds with Godines and had the most steals with three.
