Iwahashi, Maxey, Tangeman Combine for 43 Points; Regals Pull Away From Redlands at the End

REDLANDS, Calif.Mackenzy Iwahashi, Alyssa Maxey and Jozie Tangeman combined for 43 points to lead Cal Lutheran Women's Basketball to a 55-47 win over Redlands on Saturday night.

Iwahashi had a game-high 15 points as Maxey and Tangeman both added 14. Tangeman was 3-for-4 on three-pointers and Maxey connected on two more.

The difference in the game was on the glass. Cal Lutheran outrebounded Redlands 45 to 34. Grace Godines and Cameron Mallory led the team with eight rebounds each. The Regals showed off their height on the offensive end with 15 rebounds. Godines recorded five offensive rebounds and Tea Carbullido and Aliya DiMuro both brought in three.

Both teams were almost equal on shooting percentage as CLU had 30.5 and UR had 29.6. The next big difference was behind the three-point arc. The Regals hit eight, while Redlands could only muster three.

The competitive game saw eight ties and six lead changes in all. Great defense from both teams made it hard to get points. Maxey made a jump shot with three seconds left in the half to give CLU a slight 26-23 edge.

Redlands made up the difference in the third quarter and the score was tied at 36 heading to the fourth. With the Bulldogs up 45-40, and 4:55 left, the Regals went on 15-2 run to end the game including a 13-0 stretch.

The offense came from all over the place. Carbullido, Iwahashi and Maxey each hit a three as the Regals pulled away for the 55-47 win.

The Regals return home for their next matchup and host Hope International on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
